Worker's Camp

An environment I created during the Grand Space Opera: Light Age Artstation challenge.
It takes place on a foreign planet where humans force the inhabitants to work for them. This is the camp where the locals live and work.

The environment is based on a great concept made by Guillem Iborra during the concept phase of the challenge. You can find his submission here: https://www.artstation.com/contests/grand-space-opera-light-age/challenges/93/submissions/58165?sorting=following

The look of the living pods are very much inspired by old airplanes and the Razor Crest from the Mandalorian series.

I wanted to get better at using Substance Designer, so all tiling materials, trim sheet and normal decals are made in SD. I also tried using RGB masks for material blending and color variation, and really liked the workflow.

Everything in the scene is made by me, except the dust and fog particles, as well as fog planes, which are slightly modified versions from the Epic Games particle demo.

Two blueprints I built for the environment. One to globally control the dust added on top with a material parameter collection controlled by the blueprint. The other one helped me quickly add variation to the living units by toggling meshes on and off.
